We live in the age of averageness – it’s not complaining, but a fact. If you’re looking for inspiration to help you in overcoming mediocrity and changing for good, this post aims to give you such.

I’d like to point you out 5 common examples of everyday life things that maybe you could – or even should – look at for a slightly different point of view. Please don’t take it as anything like imposing a lifestyle or coaching – since we take great care to create quality products for you, it is just a wider look at our business (and hence, life) philosophy.

1. Food

The fast-food became an important part of today’s world – even if we try to avoid it, the lack of time causes that everyone goes for it from time to time. However, the mediocrity of eating should not be understood only as a junk food, but rather as always being in a hurry.

Sometimes, it is good to slow down a little – and preparing a good meal (not even necessarily healthy!) might be a great example of such a personal, calming ritual with nice things put on the table such as colourful polish pottery ceramic plate and handpainted ceramic butter dish and most important handmade ceramic coffee mug.

Ever tried to bake a cake?

Finding a way to calm down however depends solely on you – it might as well be reading a book, shaving, and even watching telly or playing computer games. Just remember to do it just once in a while – otherwise, it might quickly change to

2. Waste of time

Waking up – work – go home – sleep – sounds familiar? If it does, then you just found a perfect reason to find yourself a hobby.

You may think it’s easy to say so when writing a blog, but trust me, I’m doing boring things just like everyone else. The trick is to do something (like anything) engaging in the meantime – if I’d just sit and watch telly when free of writing things, I’d quickly gain a depression or strong glasses at least.

I’m not saying that watching a telly example is a waste of time – if it gives you joy, then please do so! However, if you do it because you simply have nothing else to do, then maybe trying other activities would be a nice idea?

3. Low-quality products

Mass production requires a mass of dysfunctions – if it didn’t, we’d use infinitely working bulbs since 100 years. The disappearance of workshops confirms the point of view that today it is way faster and cheaper to buy a new thing when the old one breaks than to repair it.

However, there are still places and businesses’ that aim the other way – to create a solid product which will last for years. Of course, the price has to be slightly higher than less-quality alternatives, but from my experience, it is well worth considering to spend 3 times more for one pair of boots that will last through 5 winters, than to spend 3 times less for ones that will fall apart after just one season.

Why not put a colorful polish pottery ceramic teapot on the warmer in the table center rather than going to the kitchen several times during the evening?

4. Colleagues and clients

Ever had a feeling that the conversation rather bores you instead of giving a joy? If it is a common feeling, then perhaps you should limit your contacts.

Of course, I’m talking about breaking friendships and being a douche, but if seeing a person seems like a sad obligation, it might be better to save yourself some precious time and just do something else.

It is worth noting that the rule also applies to work – if you are blessed with the possibility to choose your own targets and clients, then if there is one that annoys you, why won’t you let him (her) go and spend your precious energy and mood for another one that is more promising and less irritating?

5. Closer relations

Colleagues matter, but who matters the most is your closest ones.

Living in a constant hurry is hard for sustaining family relationships – how many times have I personally been postponing a simple phone call to my parents because of other “duties”, I can’t even count.

As obvious as it sounds, maintaining strong relationships with your closes ones is something more than just spending Christmas together – and it takes more than just a phone call here and there.

Take a break and have a polish pottery handmade stoneware mug or a breathtaking handmade ceramic cup of coffee together – it’s just one of many ways to be with one another.

Being better
As “coachy” as it sounds, dropping mediocrity lies in developing yourself and moving forward instead of staying in the same spot – I, for example, started to learn about internet traffic instead of just writing content. BCV started a quality blog platform instead of just selling quality pottery.

We’ll be glad if you too give an example of your own activities in the comments. 🙂
